Chief Tony Sahagian is a Boston native who has always called Central Massachusetts home. After graduating from Worcester Academy, Chief Sahagian entered Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, where he earned a B. A. in History; he was subsequently commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in the United States Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Chief Sahagian served over 23 years as an officer in the active component of the United States Army, with 8 years served in Infantry assignments and 15 years in the Army’s Military Police Corps. Infantry assignments included command at the Light Infantry Rifle Platoon, Mortar Platoon, Anti-Tank Platoon, and Rifle Company levels, while Military Police assignments included serving as Deputy Provost Marshal of the Second Infantry Division, Camp Casey, Korea; and, Provost Marshal for the military communities of West Point, New York; Fort Dix, New Jersey; and Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Chief Sahagian’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, 5 awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, 2 awards of the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Korean Defense Service Medal.
Chief Sahagian is a graduate of numerous leadership and management courses, including the University of Louisville’s Management of the Small Law Enforcement Agency Course and, the United States Army Command and General Staff College. Chief Sahagian holds an M.S. in Criminal Justice from Troy State University, Troy, Alabama, and, he is a graduate of the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council Basic Training Course for Police Officers.
Chief Sahagian is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Central Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Massachusetts Police Association, and the Military Officers Association of America.
Chief Sahagian was sworn in as Boylston’s Chief of Police on December 27th, 1999.
